Decarbonised energy systems:
- The research focuses on electrical drive systems containing frequency converters and electrical machines and also extends to other applications of power electronics such as electricvehicle charging systems and advanced converter topologies based on siliconcarbide and galliumnitride devices.
(Professor Lassi Aarniovuori lassi.aarniovuori@lut.fi )
Circular Economy:
- The research is focused on recovery of valuable compounds with high purity from used photovoltaic solar panels utilizing mainly hydrometallurgical processing. The focus is on novel and un-utilized separation methods and advanced process design.
- The research is focused on hydrometallurgical recovery of unutilized battery metals (e.g.) as very pure products in lithium-ion battery recycling process and utilizing advanced process design (e.g. in ion exchange) and novel separation technologies (e.g. novel separation materials and electrochemical methods) in making main products’ (Li, Co, Ni) recovery more efficient. (Professor Eveliina Repo Eveliina.repo@lut.fi, Associate Professor Sami Virolainen sami.virolainen@lut.fi).
